Paper doll - This title implies a picture of something fragile... A doll, that is made by the human hand with aptitude and is also easy to rumple. Let's have a look on the picture itself to get to know if the figure matchs to this imagination...
The motif: On the photograph we can see a woman dressed in a black and white newspaper dress, shoes and accessories. She also has a black and white make-up and the only thing that's colored is her skin. But it's also light, but let's have a look on this later...
The background of the photograph is also "dressed" in black and white newspaper pages. The window frame, the chair, the pillow of the chair, the wall, the ground... Actually you can see that there are newspaper pages behind the window frame, too. This builds up the idea that we are caught in newspaper or "paper"!
This scenery is well arranged and crucial for the vision of this photograph. It permits many ways of interpretation for the viewer! I also found my way...
Now we can have a look on the colours again. Everything in the background is dressed in newspaper. In the foreground the "doll" is also dressed in newspaper, but it limits itself only to parts of the clothing. The other parts differ from the newspaper"design", but they're still caught in the black and white colour. The skin, which is the only coloured aspect, catches the eye of the viewer and establish a relationship to reality. But it doesn't seem really realistic. The skin and the "perfect" mimic of the model create the image of a doll and the light skin fit to the image of a china doll. That image totally fits to the title and if I collect all the images it openes the vision of a (china) doll dressed in paper, which is still fragile in its "material". But of course the pose of the doll creates a different picture of strength. Paradox?
The photographer took this scenery and converted them into this photograph. This shows his skills and his eye for details!
All the points support the fact that this photograph is an amazing work which is totally worth watching it for a longer time. Thank you for sharing this great work with us!
Please forgive me for my bad english... I hope you could understand what I supposed to say.
